Custom Colors in Snow Leopard Terminal, 64-bit Edition

Here's the 64-bit Snow Leopard update to Ciarán Walsh's original blog post on customizing colors in Leopard terminal.
Here's what you need:
Not required, but recommended:
Here's what you do:
  1. Download and install SIMBL
  2. Download @timmfin's TerminalColors SIMBL bundle and install it to ~Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/ (create the directory if it doesn't exist)
  3. Download and install the IR_Black Terminal Theme
  4. Edit your .profile (or .bash_profile) file (create the file in your home directory, if it doesn't exist) to include:
    # Colorize the Terminalexport CLICOLOR=1;
  5. Open/Restart Terminal, open Prefs, and ensure that the "More..." button appears in the Text windows of the Settings tab (see below)
  6. That's it! Open a new terminal window, and you should have beautiful color!

Babbage Difference Engine No. 2

Img_5007

On a recent business trip to SF, a few co-workers and I drove down to Cupertino (to visit the Mothership) and then to Mountain View. While in Mountain View we headed over to the Computer History Museum but it had closed early to host a company party. As we were walking out an enthusiastic guide offered to tell us about the Babbage Difference Engine No. 2 sitting in the lobby, which is the second complete Difference Engine No. 2 to be built from Babbage's original drawings, and was commissioned by Nathan Myhrvold. Turns out that our guide was former eBay CIO Bob Sanguedolce; he was an excellent guide, clearly excited and passionate about Babbage's creation. Bob took the time out of his day to tell us about it, even though he didn't have to, turning a potentially bust visit in to a boom. Thanks Bob, we really appreciated it!

My iPhone's camera doesn't do justice to the Difference Engine No. 2, so if you happen to be in Mountain View, I highly recommend that you visit the Computer History Museum while it's still on display.

Doodle #1

Doodle1

I doodle. A lot. And up until now, the only people who have seen my doodles are my wife, kids, and co-workers. But starting today, I'm going to post my doodles to Byte Engine. The doodles will be in random states of completeness, may or may not have color, will be of varying sizes and shapes, and are usually something completely of my imagination. Like them or hate them, feel free to let me know.

Here's the first one, by virtue of it being the last one I did.
